Youth Voices Presents: A Youth-Led Mayoral Forum

Aug 19, 2017

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Open to the public

Join us on August 19 to hear mayoral candidates share their vision for the future of New Orleans: the young people!

Young people want and deserve opportunities to succeed in our city.  And like any other resident, they have the right to know how city leaders plan to address their needs.  Yet so far, none of the candidates’ published platforms mention youth other than to address concerns that they will become criminals.

This forum will focus on three issues identified by youth as key to their success: access to education, criminal justice reform, and quality transportation.

The event is organized and will be led by members of the Youth Voices Council, a group of diverse young leaders who share a common goal of alleviating injustices within Louisiana’s juvenile justice system. The Council is supported by the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights.  Co-sponsors include EMPLOY, Café Reconcile, and CASA New Orleans.

City Councilmember LaToya Cantrell and Judge Michael Bagneris have already confirmed their participation, and we look forward to having additional candidates attend.  The forum will take place from 10 am to 12 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans (5401 S. Claiborne Ave).

If you’re a young New Orleanian or someone who cares about their success, join us on August 19!  RSVP on our Eventbrite or Facebook page.
